AMI Hose to bring 40 jobs to Sault Ste. Marie

A new manufacturing company will be taking up residence in Sault Ste. Marie and will focus on creating braided hoses that will be used in the automotive industry.

The company, AMI Hose, will invest approximately $2.2 million in Sault Ste. Marie and bring 40 new permanent jobs to the area.

"Sault Ste. Marie was in direct competition with the state of Indiana for these new jobs," says Kristen Claus, Sault EDC director. "The incentives offered by the EDC and the Michigan Economic Development Corporation gave our community the advantage over Indiana for this new company."

AMI Hose will share space in the former Soo Plastics building, which is currently occupied by AMI. Don't let the names fool you, though -- the two companies are owned and operated independent of each other. EDC officials say that AMI, which produces tubes, has grown significantly over the years, but still has unused space in the building.

According to Claus, projections for the region include the direct benefit of 40 AMI Hose jobs and the creation of 12 secondary jobs as a result of the company’s launch in Sault Ste. Marie. More than $1.6 million in annual payroll will result from this combination of direct and indirect jobs.
