After decades, the main academic building on
Northern Michigan University's campus is getting more than a makeover--Jamrich Hall will be built all-new.
Groundbreaking on the new building took place in May and the LEED-certified facility is planned to open for classes in the fall of 2014.
It's close to the former John X. Jamrich Hall, which housed more than 40 percent of university classes. The new building will carry the same name and be home to classrooms as well as the academic offices for the criminal justice, English, sociology, social work and anthropology, as well as math and computer science departments.
New parking lots also have been built to replace the parking displaced by the new construction.
