U.P.-wide appliance recycling program underway

Have an old refrigerator or freezer in working condition that you're looking to get rid of? Well, there's a new program in the U.P. that will run through August that will not only come to your house to get the appliances, but will also pay you $30 per unit, too.

The Appliance Recycling Program is free to homeowners and those participating can be assured that their appliances are being recycled in an environmentally-friendly manner.

“Whether you are looking to save space, save money, or reduce your energy consumption, this recycling program gives you the opportunity to do all three and receive a $30 incentive,” says Sam Sirkin, senior program manager for JACO Environmental, the company which handles the recycling process for the Michigan programs.

Additionally, if you're having a fridge or freezer picked up and have an air conditioner or dehumidifier that you would like to dispose of, they will take those, too and pay $15 each via the Energy Optimization Program rebates.

To schedule a pick-up between now and Aug. 31, visit this link or call (877) 270-3519.
