Drummond Island restaurant reopens as Esther's Authentic Mexican Cuisine

A new Drummond Island restaurant is offering up authentic Mexican food starting this spring, having just celebrated its grand opening.

The former Deb's Island Restaurant, at 29299 East Channel Road on Drummond Island, is now Esther's Authentic Mexican Cuisine, owned by Esther Parris. It's open Tuesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

And she does mean authentic--Parris is originally from Mexico City, Mexico, and cooks a wide variety of affordable, classic Mexican dishes, from breakfast to some delicious-looking desserts. It looks like a very good reason to take a trip over to Drummond Island this summer, in fact.

Menu items include chimichangas, tacos, fajitas, burritos, salads, churros, flan and sopapillas, as well as Mexican traditional dishes that might not be as familiar to U.P. palates, like tamales and salpicon salad.

Esther's also offers take-out options, and catering services for events and parties. The restaurant also offers its own salsas, in an array of flavors from mango to chile arbol, by the pint for use at home. You can keep up to date on Esther's daily specials, often chosen with a flair of creativity from fresh ingredients, on the restaurant's Facebook page.
