Plus One program recognizes businesses that added jobs in Marquette County

One job at a time is how local economies are built--and that's what the Lake Superior Community Partnership is honoring in its Plus One Program.

The economic development group announced it is recognizing 49 Marquette County businesses who added one or more jobs in 2012. All together, the businesses have created 293 new jobs last year, according to the partnership.

Those businesses are: 906 Technologies, Adler Lumber, Adult Learning Systems, Bay Human Services, Blue Cross Blue Shield Upper Peninsula, Carpet One, Casualties, Charter Communications, Checker Bus, Country Inn and Suites, CrossFit 906, First National Trust and Wealth Management, Graybill and Mead, Great Lakes Recovery Center, Greater Ishpeming--Negaunee Chamber of Commerce, Hampton Inn Marquette Waterfront, Integrated Designs, Lake Superior Hospice, Lasco, Marqtran, Marquette Downtown Development Authority, mBank, Michigan Energy Options, Northern Awning and Window Co., Northern Initiatives, Ore Dock Brewing, Peninsula Fiber Network, Peninsula Pharmacy, Pike Distributors, Pioneer Surgical Technology, Range Bank, River Valley Bank, Snapperhead Inventions and Marquette Backcountry Ski, Smith Paving, Snap Fitness, Stephenson National Bank and Trust, Sunrise Builders, Superior Contact, Superior Extrusion, Superior Rehabilitation and Professional Services, Synergy Fitness, Teaching Family Homes of Upper Michigan, U.P. Home Health, Hospice and Private Duty, Upper Peninsula Health Plan, Veridea Group, WJMN-TV3, WMQT, YMCA of Marquette County and Yooper Shirts.

The program is in cooperation with Michigan Works! and has a goal of supporting a 1 percent increase in the Marquette County workforce each year. That goal's been more than met, with 1,781 jobs created in six years by Marquette County businesses.
