LSSU names DeLap Dean of College of Engineering, Technology and Economic Development
Ronald DeLap will have a few more responsibilities at Lake Superior State University starting July 1. The assistant professor of electrical engineering was recently named the
Dean of the College of Engineering, Technology and Economic Development, a post he will take effective July 1.
"It is an honor and a blessing to be chosen for this leadership position," says DeLap. "We have outstanding faculty and staff in the college, and I look forward to working together to accomplish great things for LSSU and for our students."
DeLap is no stranger to leadership. He brings with him 22 years experience in the
U.S. Air Force as a research engineer, during which time he was involved in project management and led teams of more than 200 engineers, scientists and support staff. During his time with the Air Force, DeLap worked on major system design efforts and had the opportunity to work with members of Congress, senior Air Force officers and industry leaders.
DeLap also worked as a systems engineer for
Delphi Automotive.
His teaching background includes three years at the high-school level as well as at the
Air Force Institute of Technology,
Wright State University,
Saginaw Valley State University,
UCLA and
Loyola Marymount University.
DeLap holds Bachelor's and Master's degrees in electrical engineering from
Michigan Tech and a PhD in electrical engineering from the
University of Michigan.
He is a native of Midland, Michigan, and a 1973 graduate of
Midland High School.
In his new role as dean, DeLap will oversee a college that offers degrees in engineering management; computer, electrical, mechanical, and general engineering, as well as industrial, manufacturing engineering, electrical engineering, and general engineering technology. The program also features certificates in manufacturing and post-graduate robotics.
