Finlandia University adds medical billing and coding program

Finlandia University in Hancock is making moves to better serve the health care fields that are so in demand for its graduates, with the addition of a new educational program.

The school now will offer a new associate's in applied science degree, in medical billing and coding, as part of the Finlandia University College of Health Sciences. The first classes in the new degree program will be offered this fall.

"This is a fantastic opportunity for our future students to join a rapidly growing field," says Dr. Cameron Williams, Dean of the College of Health Sciences. "This expansion of the College of Health Sciences is a sign of progress for our community, both on campus and off."

The new program will offer graduates eligibility to sit for their coding certificate exams; after the exams, they will be qualified to enter one of the fastest-growing segments of the health care field; electronic health records. The two-year degree also can be used as the first two years of a cross-curricular bachelor's degree in healthcare management with the Finlandia University International School of Business.
